Southern Wedding with DIY Touches

Photography by Abby Kruenegel, Dragonfly Photography
One of my first experiences designing an event was my own wedding.  Jeremy and I were married in romantic Savannah, Georgia.  We wanted to make sure we added personal touches to our wedding, without overshadowing the charm and beauty that drew us to the city.
Invitations, programs, placecards, and much, much more were handmade with the help of close friends and family.  Bridesmaids and women from my family helped felt flowers that would make up my bouquet out of wool purchased from Savannah's, Wild Fibre Yarns. The felt theme continued to the bridesmaids gifts of robes, which were gifted on felt decorated hangers.  To brand this rockstar event,  I designed an Oak Tree logo to be made into a stamp for save-the-dates, thank yous, and programs.  The same logo appeared on plastic to-go cups (a must have to take advantage of the open container laws in Savannah) that were distributed to guests in welcome bags.  And during the ceremony, a hand-carved heart was placed on a tree in Monterey Square to bring the logo to life.

2x4s were converted into table numbers with personality.  We cut the wood into small blocks and painted
them to match our color scheme.
Table numbers were carefully painted onto each block. To share the story of our relationship, vignettes of our history together were typed up and decoupaged on the back.

Of all the details and special touches, I'll always remember how happy I was as Jeremy and I, newly married and hand in hand, led our guests on a kazoo parade from our ceremony to reception.  Throughout Savannah, people could hear our family and friends joyously buzzing The Dixie Cups', Chapel of Love.

Growing Up! Up! Up!

To kick off the Punch Parties Blog, I can't help but share a sneak peek of the invitations I'm working on for Georgie's first birthday.
With the theme, Growing Up! Up! Up!, Georgie and his parents will be celebrating his first birthday with family and friends in the park.  Guests will enjoy a whimsical afternoon with tasty snacks and drinks including a lemonade-based punch.  Georgie's friends will appreciate interactive (toddler appropriate) decorations including a hot air balloon they can actually get into!
